Prepping Your Pool for Summer

May 7, 2026 11:22 am

As the weather warms up, it’s time to get your pool ready for summer fun. Whether you’re reopening an existing pool or installing a new one, following these steps will help ensure your pool is clean, safe, and compliant with District requirements.

1. Clean and Inspect
Remove any debris, leaves, or dirt from the pool and surrounding area. Check for any visible damage to the pool liner, tiles, or equipment. Clean out the skimmer and pump baskets to ensure proper filtration.

2. Balance the Water Chemistry
Test your pool water for pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels. The ideal pH should be between 7.2 and 7.6. Shock the pool if necessary to kill bacteria and algae, and use an algaecide if needed.

3. Inspect and Maintain Equipment
Check the pool pump, filter, and heater to ensure they are functioning correctly. Clean or replace the filter if needed and inspect hoses and connections for leaks.

4. Safety Check
Make sure all pool safety equipment, such as ladders, railings, and pool covers, are secure. If you have young children, ensure fences and gates are properly locked and in good condition.

5. New Pool Installations & Required Inspections
If you are installing a new pool, it is important to follow all Harris-Fort Bend MUD 1 guidelines and requirements. Once construction is complete, you must schedule an inspection with the District Operator, Inframark, to ensure the pool complies with local regulations, drainage requirements, and safety standards. This inspection helps protect both your property and the community’s infrastructure.

6. Schedule a Pool Inspection
For both new pool installations and existing pools requiring verification, contact Inframark to set up a pool inspection. Call (281) 579-4500 to schedule your inspection and ensure compliance with local regulations.

Following these steps, you can enjoy a clean, safe, and compliant pool all summer!
